Throughout the spring and early summer months we often get complaints of the large number of geese within our community. While the geese offer their own beauty to the property, they come with many unwanted side effects. Some of those being damage to our lawns, droppings, and hazards on our roads.
Over the years the goose population within Oceanside Cove has grown exponentially and every year the Board of Directors and Management have looked into cost effective measures to control the goose population. Canadian Geese are protected by the DEC and therefore require special procedures to try and control them.
Beginning on March 19, 2021 we will be working with an outside company to try a new method to control the goose population within the community. Their goal is to preventing nesting in the community by making the geese feel unwanted. This company will use dogs to scare the birds from the property at different times of the day and early evening. These dogs are well trained, working animals, and come each with an individual handler. This does not harm or kill the geese in any way.
Please do not approach or distract the dogs or the handlers while they are working!
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call the Management Office and we'll be happy to discuss with you further.
